The burning cabin did seem out of place with the whole gothic theme they had going. To see if its the same shot that they just used twice I would have to go back and watch the episode when Brigette died... I don't know if I have that episode though...
As a side note, have you guys ever noticed Steven Long Mitchell and Craig W. Van Sickle's utter love affair with blowing things up? There is one fire and two explosions in IOTH and every season finale ended with an explosion of some sort.

here's your answer to the "explosion" fetish of Mitchell and Van Sickle...
they are guys. guys like to watch nuts blow up.
a more serious answer: the theory behind ending a season finale with something blowing up is that it makes the viewer wonder what happened, who survived, and makes them watch the premiere episode to find out the answers. its just like ending with a cliff-hanger...only Pretender usually blew the cliff up.

I understand the serious answer but blowing things up every season finale gets kinda tired, for me anyway. But then I'm not a guy . I think it comes down to one very apt statement : It's a guy thing (Intoned with just the right amount of sarcasm and exasperated affection ).

For what it's worth, here is a pattern I had noticed.
Season 1's finale - Raines is shot.
Season 2's finale - Sydney blows up SL-27
Season 3's finale - Miss Parker is shot.
Season 4's finale - DC Subway is blown up....
If there had been a Season 5, I wonder what its finale would have been and who would have been shot ;D....?

also in Season 4's finale Raines is shot again.
That man must hold the record for number of near-death experiences
1. oxygen tank explosion 2. taken to Africa by Triumvirate for "re-education" 3. explosion of SL-27 4. shot by Mr. Parker
am I missing any others?
Seriously, that man is freaky with his rising from the dead thing.

didnt they say something about him surviving a fire in SL-27, causing him to use the oxygen tank?

supposedly ya his lungs or w/e were damaged in the sl27 explosion so he had to have an oxygen tank

No...Raines need the oxygen tank cause he smoked for too long. Jarod calls him and "Enphazima-riddled corpes that drags around his breath of life in a tank" in "Crazy."
After the SL-27 explosion, he had to have skin graphs over most of his body. But he needed the oxygen tank way before that explosion.

I coulda sworn they said he needed the tank because of a fire that caused the closing of SL-27. Might have heard wrong...who knows.

Well think about it....(I just thought of this)...
Raines needed the oxygen tank in Season 1, right? Cause Sydney exploded it in the season finale. So he had to have had it then. The SL-27 explosion wasn't until the Season 2 finale.
So there's my logic! ~Twin2of3

When Miss Parker, Sydney, and Broots discovered SL-27, there had been a fire many years before. They saw the burnt out remains of examining rooms and also found a skeleton in some kind of suit. I do remember something about that is how Ranies' lungs were damanged unless the writers switched gears again and changed the story and blamed it on smoking.

I see how one could think that Raines uses the Oxy-Tank because of smoking, it was when Sydney asked Raines what happened to him. The response was really funny. "What happened to you?" - Sydney "To many cigarettes, not enough vacation." - Raines
